Artist Spotlight: Northern Hospitality

Written by Chloe Gudgin

Meet Northern Hospitality, the Teeside band who recently supported Kaiser Chiefs in their hometown of Middlesbrough.

With a unique blend of playful punk and gutsy guitar riffs, Northern Hospitality are known for their infectious on-stage energy and captivating live performances. As one of the region’s most promising hardcore punk bands, if you haven’t yet seen these guys live, I’d suggest adding that to your to-do list. Joined by Georgia Smith on drums, Nico Mouissie on bass, and Sean McCloskey on lead guitar, these guys are truly making waves in the NE music scene.

I chatted to the lead singer Gaz Price about the success of his band and how 2024 has treated them so far.

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

“Now then! I’m Gaz Price, lead singer and guitar for Northern Hospitality. I’m a northerner who loves
music and scran haha! I’ve been doing music in many different forms for years, but NH has become everything I’ve ever wanted in this preset of a career in the business!”

So, what made you want to get into music?

“Music was something I’ve always loved, to me it was always an outlet, a consoling hand on the shoulder and a gateway to a life outside the norm. Once I realised I could channel my energy into something that gave me such meaning and joy it was a no brainer!”

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

“This year has been mental like; we’ve released some big tunes and supported Kaiser chiefs/ Feeder on the festival main stage. We plan to hit a a few major cities and bring our carnage to some new audiences. We will be recording our next releases with Sugar House in Liverpool too!”

What was the inspiration behind your newest release, ‘Break Free’?

“Break Free is a song about inner turmoil and frustration vented through beautiful crafted chaos.”

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

“The best thing has to be supporting Kaiser Chiefs and feeder to 6 thousand home fans! One of the BEST days of my life so far! But a close second is getting our picture on the Idols wall of fame. It’s a local indie bar in our Hometown and that was a class feeling haha! Love idols it’s always had a big place in our heart.”

Who are your inspirations music-wise?

“My biggest inspiration musically changes as the years go on, but overall it has to be Greenday/Nirvana.”

And, tell us… who is your favourite upcoming band/artist that you hope others check out?

“There are so many!! I am right into Dead Pony at the minute – they are incredible! To name a few big up and comers I would say: Gone tomorrow, Dawks, Max Bianco, and Bilk.”

Northern Hospitality will be joining the lineup at Marisam Events’ brand new original music event series, Elevate 22, taking place at Newgate Social on September 6th. Tickets can be found here
